Join In with Lessons

Fortismere Music Centre offers high-quality instrumental lessons, taught by experienced musicians from Haringey Music Service.

Our teachers come from a range of backgrounds and training methods so we are able to offer a style of learning suited to every student. We offer the option of preparing for graded exams, or pursuing an individual route through musical education. We offer instrumental lessons one-on-one or shared between friends. For more advanced players, we can also form ensembles with other students, from String Quartets to Jazz Bands.

Each year ends with the option to share progress with other learners and parents in our Sharing Concerts. These concerts aren't about being polished, but rather about sharing all the different types of music being studied at the Centre.

Classical Piano

Izabella graduated from the University of Szeged Music Conservatoire (Hungary), followed by piano performance studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. As a student she took part and won prizes at various piano competitions in Serbia and Hungary. She attended several piano/accompaniment/chamber music masterclasses, including one with Roger Vignoles in London. She mainly teaches classical piano, prepares students for grade exams, but she also incorporates improvisation, jazz, pop and other styles into her teaching. She has been learning singing and jazz piano, as a second study, over the years. Izabella regularly performs as an accompanist, chamber musician, and occasionally as a solo pianist.

Sam is a professional drummer and drum teacher of 15 years, teaching all ages and abilities. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and a trained Nordoff Robbins music therapist. His rounded and person-centred approach to teaching is therefore tailored to the student, their specific strengths and passions. Sam teaches through song-based curricula, from various grade systems and a wealth of other drum literature, within all styles and genres, and through improvisation. He aims to help you flourish as a musician, within a fun and interactive learning environment. There is an emphasis on collaborative music-making, enjoyment and musicality above everything, focussing on groove, feel, time-keeping and interpretation, as well as technique, independence and posture. For a more interactive approach, Sam can accompany you on guitar, piano, bass or percussion.

Dan Weiss is an all round contemporary guitarist. Dan has a degree in performance and composition from the Institute Of Contemporary Music (bMus hons). In his spare time he likes to compose and record guitar for musicians he has met over the years.
